St. Louis, MO. – House Democrats are calling on Governor Matt Blunt to order the Missouri Department of Mental Health to direct group homes keep convicted and accused sex offenders separate from their residents.
That call comes in the wake of published reports which cited two instances where known sex offenders sexually assaulted fellow residents.
Democratic representative Rachel Storch of St. Louis is among those calling for immediate action.
"We want to make absolutely certain that sex offenders are segregated from the general population of people who are living in group homes," Storch said. "It is an outrage that some of our most dangerous citizens are placed among some of our most vulnerable citizens."
Governor Blunt has ordered group homes to inform residents and their families when sex offenders are placed in their midst.
House Democrats feel that measure doesn't go far enough.
