Jefferson City, MO. – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is offering Ameren Corporation a deal to pay more than 125 million dollars for damages and fines stemming from the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.
The Associated Press has obtained a confidential settlement proposal that DNR sent to Ameren and to Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon on December sixth.
The settlement proposal includes a ten million-dollar fine, which would be the largest ever levied by the DNR.
However, Attorney General Jay Nixon says it is his office, not DNR, that handles legal matters. Nixon filed a lawsuit against Ameren Wednesday.
Neither DNR officials nor Ameren officials would comment on the settlement offer because it's confidential.
