St. Louis, MO – A Metro East policeman shot in the face last week by a suspect in a double slaying remains in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital.
Doctors briefed the media Thursday on Belleville police Sergeant Jon Brough.
They say he's still unconscious and unlikely to ever see or smell again. He's now breathing with the help of the machine and is being fed through a tube.
Doctors say that if he survives, he faces months, perhaps years, of facial reconstruction surgeries.
Brough was wounded last Friday, apparently by Larry Sicka while Sicka was seeking refuge in a Belleville home. Sicka was suspect in the killings of his former in-laws at their home in Swansea.
Sicka later killed himself, ending a standoff with police.
