St. Louis, MO. – Missouri's senior senator says he is looking forward to working with Claire McCaskill, who defeated Republican Jim Talent for the state's other seat in the Senate.
Kit Bond says that he called McCaskill after her victory was assured early Wednesday morning.
The Republican says he offered to have his staff help her with the transition to the senate seat.
And following the election he had much more complimentary things to say about McCaskill than prior to her win.
"When she was county prosecutor in Jackson County and she made a strong pitch to me for increased federal support for drug courts," Bond said. "I thought she was right, I supported it. So, she's very capable and we've worked together before and I look forward to working with her in the coming term."
Bond stands to lose the chairmanship of two subcommittees if the Republicans lose the majority in the Senate, which he says is likely.
