St. Louis – Missourians do not have to show a photo identification to vote tomorrow. But Secretary of State Robin Carnahan says she was asked for one anyway when she cast an absentee ballot in St. Louis.

Carnahan called her experience troubling and said she is concerned that poll workers in other parts of the state might also be confused.

Missouri enacted a law earlier this year that would have required voters to show a government-issued photo ID. But the Missouri Supreme Court struck down the requirement as an unconstitutional infringement on the right to vote.

Carnahan said a photo ID is one option for voters. But she said voters also can verify their identity with documents like a utility bill, bank statement or paycheck.
