St. Louis – St. Peters Mayor Shawn Brown resigned Monday after pleading guilty in federal court last week to accepting a bribe.
A city spokesman said Brown faxed his resignation to city hall.
The St. Peters Board of Aldermen had planned to hold a meeting and consider impeaching Brown if he didn't resign.
Brown admitted to taking a bribe from Redflex Traffic Systems, a company that is installing traffic-signal cameras in the city.
Brown could face up to two years in prison.
