New York – The Cardinals will play the Detroit Tigers in Game One of the World Series Saturday.
The Redbirds beat the Mets 3-1 Thursday in New York to take the National League pennant.
Yadier Molina hit a 2-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie, and pitcher Adam Wainwright struck out the Mets' Carlos Beltran for the final out.
The Cards and Tigers have played each other in the World Series twice before in 1934 and 1968.
