Marshfield, MO. – A Missouri Department of Transportation worker is dead after being struck by an 18-wheeler in southwest Missouri while putting up a memorial sign for a trooper killed last year.
Authorities say William Craine died when the truck hit him late Tuesday morning on a westbound outer road along I-44, about 30 miles east of Springfield.
A highway patrol spokesman said the area was marked as a work zone.
Craine was putting up a sign naming the stretch of interstate after highway patrol corporal Jay Sampietro, who was struck and killed in August 2005 while doing a crash reconstruction report.
