Belleville, Ill. – A pit bull puppy is rebounding in a Metro East animal shelter after being rescued from a home where it might have been beaten with a shovel.
The Belleville Area Humane Society has named the pooch Sara; she has a broken femur on a hind leg, intestinal parasites, a tender abdomen and fleas.
Cahokia police let the shelter seize the puppy after a neighbor says she saw the owner beating the dog with a shovel. Cahokia's police chief says no charges were filed because it appeared, as the owner claimed, that other dogs in the yard were responsible for the puppy's injury.
