Columbia, MO. – A Missouri National Guard soldier has been killed in Iraq.

Sergeant Lawrence Lee Roy Parrish of Lebanon, Missouri died Saturday from injuries suffered from an explosive device.

A National Guard soldier from Kansas also was killed in the attack.

The Guard posthumously promoted Parrish to the rank of sergeant, and National Guard spokesperson Jamie Melchert says Parrish will also receive other honors.

"Parrish was posthumously awarded the bronze star, the purple hearth, the combat action badge and from the Missouri National Guard the Missouri Expeditionary Medal," Melchert said.

The 36-year-old had served in the National Guard for twelve years.
