St. Louis, MO. – A former St. Louis street inspector could face up to 20 years in prison.
John Stewart pleaded guilty today to federal charges that he accepted bribes from contractors in exchange for, among other things, certifying sewer repair work he had not inspected.
Sentencing is December 22.
Stewart was accused of accepting payments from contractors for job referrals, pulling permits, approving change orders for unnecessary work, and for falsely certifying that he had inspected jobs upon completion.
He was one of four city inspectors indicted in August. The other three men are awaiting trial.
