Missouri voter ID federal lawsuit likely on hold

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, Mo. – Both sides in a federal lawsuit challenging Missouri's new voter ID law have agreed to put the case on hold while the state Supreme Court hears a separate appeal.

The law says all voters must provide a government-issued photo identification starting with November's elections.

Opponents challenged the law in both state and federal court. A Cole County judge struck it down earlier this month, and the state's high court will hear an appeal next week.

Different opponents sued in federal court in early September.

Both lawsuits contend the photo ID requirement interferes with the right to vote.
