Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will shut down Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park Monday for the rest of the year. The popular park near Lesterville was badly damaged last December when Ameren UE's Taum Sauk reservoir breached, flooding the park with 1.3 billion gallons of water. Many of the park's facilities were either damaged or destroyed.
The park reopened May 27th, mostly so visitors could view the damage. Officials say the park will close so that work can begin on redevelopment. State officials believe the park will be fully operational in 2008.
