Parents group helps promo college savings

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – The Missouri College Savings Plan is partnering with a parents' group to spread the word about saving for kids' college.

The Missouri program, known as MOST, gives parents tax incentives for contributing to a college savings account.

Now the group Parents as Teachers will help promote the savings accounts.

State Treasurer Sarah Steelman says the organization is trusted by parents and reaches thousands of Missouri families.

This has not been done before in the state and I just think it's a great way to make sure parents are informed about the option and the necessity to open a college savings account for their child to make sure their child's dreams come true, Steelman said.

MOST accounts can be opened with a minimum of $25 and can be used for education costs like tuition, books, supplies, and some room and board expenses.
