St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Symphony's music directorr, David Robertson, will stay in that job until at least August, 2010.

Robertson signed a contract renewal Wednesday for an undisclosed salary.

"His presence and commitment as our artistic leader through 2010 will continue to heighten our orchestra's musical reputation worldwide and attract new patrons," said Randy Adams, the orchestra's president, in a statement.

Robertson, in the same statement, said St. Louis was in a unique situation: "We have an organization where the musicians, staff, board and patrons continue to work as one to inspire and inform this community about our art form.

"This organization will be setting standards in the coming years and I'm delighted and excited to be part of it."

Robertson originally signed a three-year contract to become the SLSO's 12th music director in December 2003 and officially began his tenure in 2005-06. Robertson replaced Hans Vonk, who stepped down from the job in 2002 for health reasons. Vonk has since died.

The orchestra is in its 127th year.

To celebrate Roberton's new contract, the symphony on Thursday is selling tickets to opening night for $20.10.

Tune in to Cityscape on Friday morning at 11:00 to hear an interview with Robertson.
