Jefferson City, MO – A re-count confirms that Sandra Thomas is the winner of the Republican state auditor primary. Second-place finisher Jack Jackson had asked for a re-count because Thomas' victory margin in the August eighth election was less than one percentage point.
The secretary of state's office says today that the re-count actually added 28 votes to Thomas' victory margin. The final tally showed Thomas with 86,880 votes to Jackson's 85,008 votes. Three other Republicans finished further back.
Thomas will face Democrat Susan Montee in the November general election.
Jackson said in a statement Wednesday that upon hearing the news, he immediately called Thomas to congratulate her.
