St. Louis, MO – Teachers in Alton will vote on a proposed contract Monday.
They were scheduled to walk off the job today, but the teachers' union and district leadership reached a tentative deal last week.
Union leadership will recommend teachers approve the proposal.
School started last week for Alton students.
English teacher and local union president Brenda Powers says both sides made concessions in reaching the deal, the terms of which will be released later.
The union represents 650 district employees, including about 470 teachers.
