St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Fire Department says one of its paramedics died Monday in Iraq. A spokesman says Christopher Walsh died in a roadside bombing.

Walsh, 30, was a Navy Reserve medic assigned to a U.S. Marine unit. Friends say Walsh's family had a history of serving in both the military and as firefighters.

Black bunting adorns fire houses and flags are lowered to half-staff in honor of Walsh, who is described by friends as easy-going and hard-working.

Funeral arrangements are still being made. Burial will be at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Walsh grew up in Shawnee, Kansas, and moved to the St. Louis area after high school.
