St. Louis, MO. – A teachers' strike at the Wolf Branch school district in the Metro East is still on.
Members of the teachers' union Thursday morning rejected the district's latest contract offer. They've been on strike for five days.
Union president Jeff Birk says the district offered a half-percent more in salary in the third year of the contract.
"To us it doesn't look like they're showing a whole lot of movement," Birk said. "I don't think they're really in a hurry to get this accomplished. It seems like they're spending a lot of their time trying to intimidate their teachers."
Birk says the union dropped its salary request by three percent over the last four proposals.
Wolf Branch Superintendent Bud Martin has not returned calls from KWMU.
But a statement from Board of Education's attorney called the union's salary demands "unrealistic and unaffordable."
