St. Louis, MO – Travelers flying out of St. Louis cannot transport beverages, shampoo, toothpaste and liquids of similar consistency in their carry-on luggage.

They're also encouraged to arrive 90 minutes to two hours before their flight to clear security.

Lambert Police Chief Paul Mason says there are things people can do to speed up the process.

"Pack fewer items in your carry-on luggage...and items that are prohibited, put them in your checked luggage," Mason said. "They don't have to leave them at home; they just cannot be carried into the cabin of the aircraft.

Mason says he does not think the tighter measures will become permanent...but adds that's dependent on the outcome of the joint U.S.-British investigation.

Items that are allowed in carry-on bags include baby formula, breast milk or juice if a baby or small child is traveling.

Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket is also allowed.
