Washington, D.C. – Republican Senator Jim Talent and Democratic rival Claire McCaskill have agreed to debate each other on the national political talk show "Meet the Press."
The debate on NBCs Sunday morning program will take place on Oct. 8, just a month before the November election.
It's the first debate the candidates have scheduled.
The Missouri senate race is one of the nation's most-watched contests. It is one of a handful that could change the balance of power in the Senate.
Democrats have targeted Talent as vulnerable, and polls show a tight race.
