Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is predicting a 26 percent voter turnout in Tuesday's primary election.
Carnahan says her forecast is based on estimates provided by local election officials.
If accurate, it would beat the turnout in the 1998, 2000 and 2002 primary elections.
But it would fall far short of the turnout for the August 2004 election.
Nearly 43 percent of registered voters cast ballots two years ago. That election featured a constitutional ban on gay marriage and a hotly contested Democratic primary for governor between Bob Holden and Claire McCaskill.
