St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis city officials are disputing some claims in a new state report on Missouri's older population.
The Missouri Senior Report gives a county by county breakdown of various quality of life factors.
The report finds that just under 55 percent of seniors in St. Louis city have drivers' licenses - an indicator of their ability to obtain services.
That's the lowest ranking in the state. But St. Louis human services director Bill Siedhoff says that's not a fair assessment of the transportation options available to seniors.
"I find that to be rather ludicrous in the sense that we have a public transportation system in the city of St. Louis certainly that other counties don't have around the state," Siedhoff said.
The report is the first of its kind in Missouri. State officials say they'll use the data to track the needs of aging Baby Boomers.
