St. Louis, MO – About 1,300 customers were still without power this (Tues) morning after a switch at a substation blew up Monday. That mishap originally left about 11,000 customers in the dark - mostly in south St. Louis City and County - but most got it back over night.
Ameren doesn't yet know if heat was a factor in the transformer blowing up.
Meanwhile, another heat-related death is being reported in St. Louis City.
A 71-year old woman in south City was found dead in her non-air-conditioned home over the weekend. It's the fifth death in the city in recent weeks being blamed on the heat.
Health officials say while the heat and humidity is bad enough, the length of the heat wave is raising more concerns.
More than 900 heat-related illnesses have also been reported to the state - nearly 500 of them in St. Louis city or county.
