Springfield, ILL. – A new law in Illinois will make it easier for school districts to consolidate.
Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a measure into law Monday that allows two or more elementary school districts within the same high school district to combine, even if those districts aren't next to each other.
The law also lets several elementary districts merge, even if one holdout refuses.
That holdout can remain on its own and join the new district later.
The decision of whether to consolidate will still be up to local officials and voters in those districts.
