Fundraising remains tough for Fair St. Louis

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – Fair St. Louis organizers say events downtown this July Fourth weekend were a success.

However this year's Independence Day schedule was scaled back to two days from three because of budget cuts.

Fair St. Louis Foundation Chairman John Stupp says changes in the area's economy mean bigger challenges for fundraising.

"We've had somewhat of an erosion of the Fortune 500 headquarters in St. Louis, so we've had to reach out to a wider group in the business community to support this activity," Stupp said. "And we're thrilled with the sponsorship we have now. But we know we need to make it bigger to keep doing this type of event."

However Fair St. Louis' Live on the Levee concerts will continue for five more weekends this summer.

The bands Sister Hazel and Better than Ezra will be on stage July 14th. And India Arie will be here the 15th.
