St. Louis, MO – The Missouri Supreme Court will hear a case challenging state law on the liability of a convenience store that sells liquor.
The store sold beer to a minor, who then became drunk and killed himself in a car accident.
A lower court judge in St. Louis ruled last year that state law does not provide for a civil claim in such cases. But the mother of the 20-year-old man who died argues the law is unconstitutional.
Her son died in a car accident after drinking a 12-pack of beer purchased from a convenience store in St. Peters.
The case was appealed to the Missouri Court of Appeals, but that court says only the Supreme Court can rule on such matters. The case was transferred Tuesday.
