Nixon off Taum Sauk case

UPI.

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO. – Attorney General Jay Nixon is being left out of the state's case against Ameren Corporation over the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says Nixon no longer represents the agency in the case. But Nixon's office says he will continue to pursue a civil case for DNR.

That means Ameren will now negotiate with two agencies over legal action resulting from the reservoir breach, which destroyed a state park and caused millions of dollars in damage.

DNR made the decision because Nixon accepted $19,000 in campaign contributions that originated with Ameren. Nixon has since said he will return the money.
