St. Louis, MO – Ameren Corporation is proposing a gradual increase in rates over the next decade.
Under the deal, customers would initially pay less than the actual cost of receiving power, but the company would recoup the difference in subsequent years as a charge on customers' bills.
Starting in January, a 10-year freeze on Illinois residential electric rates will end.
The plan would have to be approved by the state legislature.
Ameren serves 1.2 million customers in Illinois.
