Nixon to return campaign money to Ameren

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Attorney General Jay Nixon will return more than $19,000 in donations to his campaign fund to Ameren Corporation.

The contribution from the corporation came indirectly to Nixon after he began investigation Ameren over the collapse of the Taum Sauk reservoir.

The Nixon for Governor campaign says it will return the money to the four Democratic committees that donated it.

Missouri Department of Natural Resources director Doyle Childers and others questioned how Nixon could take money, even indirectly, from a company he was investigating.

Nixon for Governor treasurer Craig Hosmer says there was no impropriety in accepting the donations.
