Nixon pressure may indicate settlement talks with Ameren

St. Louis, MO. – Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is pressing other state agencies to estimate the total cost of damages from the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.

That's prompting speculation that the state's top prosecutor is in settlement talks with AmerenUE over the accident.

Nixon said in April he would file civil or criminal charges against Ameren. Neither Nixon nor Ameren would comment on any settlement talks.

Officials at the Missouri Department of Conservation and the state Department of Natural Resources say Nixon is asking for quick estimated financial damages from the reservoir collapse.
