Chicago, Ill. – A federal judge has dismissed two jurors taking part in deliberations in former Governor George Ryan's racketeering and fraud trial.
The Chicago Tribune reported last week that one juror apparently had been convicted of felony drunken driving and another had been arrested on various charges and that both had lied about it.
U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer says she hopes deliberations by the jury can proceed with alternates.
She says she wants to bring all the jurors back and give them new instructions. And she plans to tell them to begin deliberations again as if they'd never discussed the case.
The judge says she hopes to determine by tomorrow whether the deliberations can go forward.
