St. Louis, MO – Two fired police officers from the Metro-East town of Venice are suing their former colleagues and the town's former mayor. Marvin Strode and Marquitta McAfee say they were attacked and threatened by other officers on the small force.
The complaint alleges a fellow officer attacked McAfee when she tried to stop the beating of a handcuffed suspect during a traffic stop last year.
McAfee, who is black, says the white officer also hurled racial slurs at her. McAfee and Strode were later fired for publicly criticizing the force.
Former Mayor Tyrone Echols says there was never any effort to target the two officers.
