St. Louis, MO. – Those going to the polls April 4th in the City of St. Louis will be using new voting machines.
City election officials were at Harris Stowe State College Tuesday to demonstrate how the touch-screen voting machines work.
The city is replacing the old punch card ballots with the touch screen and optical scan ballots.
City Democratic elections director Mary Jones says they wanted to make sure people are familiar with the touch screen machines.
"We're doing it for the April election, just so we give people an opportunity to try it before the big elections come in August and November when it will be really large turn-outs; bigger than these turn-outs, so people will at least be acclimated to the machines," Jones said.
Both the optical scan and touch screen machines are built by Diebold Election Systems.
St. Louis County also is making the switch but not until the supplemental election in June.
