St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis County has found a buyer for the site of its former jail in the Chesterfield Valley.
Duke Realty Corporation is offering to purchase the Gumbo jail property for $6.7 million.
The company says it will redevelop the site with three buildings of office and retail space. The property has been unused since 1998 when the jail was closed. County Executive Charlie Dooley
"We knew the property was valuable," Dooley said. "It's in a great location the Chesterfield Valley. And so we decided to take it and put it on the shelf and wait a couple of years and go back out for proposal."
Dooley says the county did not offer any tax incentives to Duke Realty. The sale still needs approval from the county council, the county's port authority and the city of Chesterfield.
