Metro tests new light rail line

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Metrolink plans to move a train car on its new Cross County extension this weekend for the first time.

The agency is testing the overhead power, or catenary, lines on the section of track near the Forest Park-DeBaliviere station.

Project Communications Manager Cathie Farroll said the tests will be conducted in the middle of the night, when train traffic is light.

"We will have a train that we will move through that switch, that junction and we will actually, this will be the first time that we move a light rail vehicle onto cross county tracks. We're very excited."

Farroll said Metro is still on schedule to open the new eight-mile light rail extension from Forest Park to Shrewsbury this fall.
