Chicago, Ill. – Attorneys in the corruption trial of former Illinois Governor George Ryan will start making closing arguments today (Monday).
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joel Levin and Laurie Barsella will have as much as five hours to sum up five months of testimony from scores of witnesses.
Ryan's chief defense counsel, Dan Webb, will make his closing argument Tuesday, and has seven hours to do that.
Edward Genson, the attorney representing Ryan's co-defendant, Larry Warner, has five hours on Wednesday.
Then, federal prosecutor Patrick Collins has five hours for rebuttal on Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer has saved Friday for instructions to the jury.
Ryan and Warner face charges including racketeering and mail fraud, though they say nothing they did was illegal.
