MO lawmakers again consider changes to sex ed law

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Lawmakers in Jefferson City again are considering whether to remove a requirement to that sex education classes in Missouri provide information about contraception.

The proposal would have schools tell students that they could learn about contraception, abortion, and pregnancy from their doctors. But supporters say the change would still allow schools to still teach contraception if they chose to.

The legislation also would prohibit abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from providing sex ed materials or instruction to public school students.

Both concepts were part of sweeping anti-abortion legislation last year that fell apart in the session's final days.
