Jefferson City, MO – A proposal in Jefferson City would provide a tuition break for Missouri's foster children, veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and the survivors of those killed in combat.
Survivors of Missouri troops killed in combat would get grants equal to half the cost of tuition, along with as much as $5,000 for other expenses.
College students who have spent time in the state's foster care system could have their tuition and fees waived if they agree to complete 100 hours of community service each year.
And combat vets would get grants equal to the actual cost of tuition or the average tuition charged by the University of Missouri system.
The legislation has passed the Missouri Senate and is now in the House.
