Springfield, Ill. – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich presented his budget proposal today as a
major choice for lawmakers.
He argues they can support his efforts to help children and families or they can side with big business and special interests.
The Democrat's proposal calls for state government to spend 55-point-three billion dollars in fiscal 2007. That's an increase of 950 (M) million dollars.
The money would expand preschool, help families pay for college and hire more police and prison guards.
Republicans say the state cannot afford to spend more money.
