St. Louis, MO. – A St. Louis police officer is in serious condition and a suspect is dead following a shootout late last night.
The dead suspect is identified as Mark Jones.
The officer's name has not been released. He is an eight-year veteran of the department. Police say body armor may have saved his life.
Officers went to a home at 11:25 last night to execute a search warrant for possible drug and weapon violations.
A Police spokesman says Jones fired several shots at the officers, who returned gun fire. One of the officers was shot in the left arm and had a graze wound to the stomach.
The suspect was shot several times and was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
