Jefferson City, MO – A committee in the Missouri House on Thursday approved legislation that would let the state partner with a private company to build a new bridge at St. Louis. Part of the money to pay for the bridge would then come through a toll.
But officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation and a spokesperson for Illinois Congressman Jerry Costello say they're still opposed to a toll.
Thousands of Metro-Easters commute into St. Louis each day for work.
The two states are still working to cover a $630 million budget gap in the $910 million project.
