Chicago, Ill. –
Three public interest groups are asking the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board to investigate an Illinois Supreme Court Justice.
The groups say Justice Lloyd Karmeier should have recused himself from cases involving Bloomington-based State Farm Insurance and cigarette maker Philip Morris.
Common Cause, Citizen Action Illinois and Business and Professional People for the Public Interest say Karmeier had a conflict of interest because he accepted donations from groups affiliated with those companies.
Karmeier won the southern Illinois seat on the state's high court in 2004 in a race that set a national spending record.
