Springfield, Ill. – Aides to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich say his State of the State speech this week will include more money for treating methamphetamine addiction among Illinois prison inmates.

Specifically, he will propose opening meth-treatment units in two prisons.

The first would be at the Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center in East Saint Louis. The second would open next year at the Sheridan prison.

Each would have space to treat 200 inmates. The governor's office says that when both are up and running, the cost would be about $18 million a year.

The inmates would get treatment specially geared toward meth addiction. They would also get help finding jobs and housing when they leave prison.
