MO Sup. Court to consider broadness of sex offender list

By AP/KWMU

Kansas City, MO – The Missouri Supreme Court will consider this week whether the state's Sex Offender database is too broad.

Current laws require 1,100 sex offenders to register on a website anyone can access.

Kansas City lawyer Arthur Benson II says the law is important but "over-inclusive." He's bringing a case on behalf of eleven clients, one of whom made the list for improperly touching his 15-year-old girlfriend when he was 17.

Supporters, though, say the public's right to know about potential dangers in their community outweighs the inconvenience to those made to register.
