St. Louis, MO – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt, County Executive Charlie Dooley, and Hazelwood Mayor T.R. Carr head to Detroit today (Thursday) to meet with officials at Ford.
They're trying to convince the auto company to keep open its plant in the St. Louis suburb.
Ford has not officially announced plans to shut the plant, where 1,400 workers make S-U-Vs. But the Wall Street Journal reported plans for the shutdown last month.
A Ford spokesman would say only that the company has excess capacity and an announcement will be made this month.
Dooley's spokesman, Mac Scott, says the meeting is to make sure that Ford understands all of its alternatives for the Hazelwood plant, including possible financial incentives.
