Creve Coeur, MO – Leaders in Creve Coeur will decide in coming weeks what standards to implement to help create a new urban-looking downtown area.
The city recently approved a downtown plan with the hope that new buildings in a designated area might soon look more like the Central West End than a strip mall.
The vision is for a downtown Creve Coeur to lay south of Olive Blvd. between New Ballas Road and Old Ballas Road.
But eaders face questions of what kind of development to allow right now, given that they want to make a downtown but don't yet have exact architectural standards for it.
City planning director Matt Brandmeyer says a moratorium on development is an option -- but only as a last resort.
"We are trying to develop the architectural standards and zoning regulations between now and that time, and hopefully stave off the need for a moratorium," Brandmeyer said.
But if a moratorium is needed, Brandmeyer says it probably wouldn't last more than three months.
