Cahokia, Ill. – Police in the St. Louis suburb of Cahokia are investigating the beating death of a six-year-old boy.
A woman and her boyfriend have been arrested. Authorities are withholding their names pending formal charges.
Police found Ryan Smith unresponsive on a bedroom floor on Christmas Day after receiving a 911 call from his mother.
Authorities say an autopsy showed he'd been beaten to death.
St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone says it also appears the boy had been "grossly undernourished" and abused over a long period.
The boy's 20-month old brother was found unharmed in the home and turned over to a relative.
