St. Louis, MO – Mayor Francis Slay says he hopes Praxair officials will reconsider their decision to turn down a new site for their gas distribution plant. The company said no this week to a city-owned site near Lambert Airport, claiming that it is contaminated by radioactive waste that was dumped there in the 1940's.
Slay says that is not the case, I think it's unfortunate that they made a decision based on faulty information that they received and I was disappointed that they did not accept our offer. We're hoping that they'll reconsider. Praxair's city plant was rocked by a series of explosions in June, which sent canisters of gas flying into nearby neighborhoods. Slay says he will meet with company officials early in the new year to discuss where they will move the operations.
