Planners hear input on Metro South line

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Officials are considering three routes extending from the future Cross County station in Shrewsbury to points south.

Two of the routes would cross park lands. The third requires an elevated track.

Study manager Donna Day says right now, there's no funding source for what could be a $700 million project.

"If somehow magically we obtain the local money and the federal money, even if everything was totally favorable, you
couldn't actually have it operating for 10 years or more," Day said.

Day says funding would probably come as a local sales tax. Beyond this project, planners are considering light rail lines heading north and south out of downtown St. Louis.
